hey there. i'm not ...@ 2nd anonymous commenter

hey there. i'm not exactly
sure why your comment was edited but
i can only assume it has something to do with
me supposedly running the blog?

i'm really glad this blog was started
and am stoked that the editing collective
decided to post the article i submitted.
i don't think i know the people running this
project, but they definitely make it easy
to promote, decentralize, and spread the word.

anyway, onto your questions.
my personal opinion is that anarchism is a set of ideas for people of any class, race, or sex. They are ideas for humans.
I'm interested in anyone oppressed to become a part of the movement, be they working class or not.

Also, I don't know where you're getting your information about who showed up, but aside from my friends who organized and helped make it happen, i had never seen the vast majority that showed up at other LA anarchist events or projects before.

About what Sean said, I think the point he was
trying to make was that image of the "bomb-thrower" or the "terrorist" is all the majority
of people in the United States get of anarchism.
Obviously there is some truth to the image, but it's a portrayal of anarchism as simple black and white actions of chaos and violence when the reasons and issues are much deeper than that. Anarchism is not shallow. There are a ideas behind it.

On their needing to be movements behind militant actions, I completely agree with you. This is why every militant action we could think of is not happening, especially in LA. I believe they're only going to happen if we have monthly or periodic social events like these in as many different cities as possible, promoting anarchism without all the subcultural, cliquish bullshit, coupled with militant direct action where the social tensions are.

In other words, building an anarchist movement (or "scene", however you want to define that)
while taking militant direct actions as part of
the anarchist movement but in solidarity and
in collaboration with the general populace.
and when i mean in solidarity and collaboration
i mean in a way where we DON'T compromise our
beliefs and desires but also work together as allies.

Anyway, hopefully you can come out to the next
event, or if you're too far away i hope you can start your own anarchist events in whatever city or town you live in. i think the point is to have these events in the local towns or areas you live in. i don't want people coming from miles and miles away but i also understand how sometimes people need to do that to get inspired or check out what's going on elsewhere.

okay, i'm done.

thanks,
cruzAnonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-333414111703275501.post-4260913912605818622010-02-17T13:09:33.101-08:002010-02-17T13:09:33.101-08:00An anonymous comment above has been edited for sec...An anonymous comment above has been edited for security purposes. The anonymous commenter above said:

"cruz, while I'm really glad that you and your colaborators put the time and effort into planning this event and the work you all do to promote anarchism, as well as documenting it for all the people that couldn't make it, such as myself, it just leaves me wondering a bit.

You did a bunch of promotion for an anarchist event in upper class, lily-white Sierra Madre. Why, if anarchism is a working-class movement?

And despite that promotion, you only got a handful of the same faces that seem to be showing up at all the other anarchist events. What good does that do?

Sean goes out of his way to explain that anarchism isn't about "bomb-throwing," but historically, anarchists have been the most militant class warriors and some of the few willing to use illegal tactics such as wildcat strikes, sabotage, assassination, and occupations. This is one of its strengths!

You seem to want to promote militant actions like spatial expropriations (i.e. squats) without realizing that such actions/projects are not sustainable without the support of movements to back them up!

I see the same faces, discussions, and beef at every anarchist event and it gets old.

I hope this doesn't come off too critical, but what is really the point of holding these social events when there is no coherence to them, they are repetetive, and you are preaching to the choir?"

To somewhat answer the omitted question - this blog and the LAanarchist e-mail is run by an unaccounted for number of la anarchists who prefer to remain anonymous.
